The VEG Reserve Force:
Calling all Veterinarians!
Veterinary Emergency Group has developed a collaborative model to help the New York veterinary community with staffing for disaster preparedness in general and specifically now, for the Covid-19 crises.
The model will help emergency hospitals to stay open 24 hours and help local veterinary practices to shift their operations into these emergency hospitals if they are closed or unable to maintain staffing.
They are initiating a database of all NY veterinary staff to identify themselves, their location and their skills in handling emergency cases. Our hope is that all veterinary emergency hospitals will have access to this database at times of crisis in order to maintain adequate staff to stay open.
Staff can join the emergency hospitals in several capacities:
On-premises shifts working on emergency cases
Home-based shifts working on reception phone-calls and tele-triage (and ready to keep the hospital open if the on-premises shift becomes ill or quarantined).
The home-based team can include veterinarians and staff who are quarantined or need to be at home for other reasons.
If you would like to register with this database to be called upon when doctors are needed at a NY veterinary emergency hospital, please fill out this form Veterinarian Emergency Reserve Team or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
