For one day a week, we ask for 9-5 p.m. If two days a week, from 9/10 a.m. to 2/3 p.m. Would be great for a retired vet who doesn’t want to stop working entirely OR a vet looking to pick up extra hours.

The Vet would be required to conduct regular exams of all incoming dogs (post transport). Incoming cats would be seen/tested by vet and placed in the Kitty cottage or via a foster family through our Foster Coordinator. Current in-house dogs and cats should be checked every two weeks. See any dog/cat in residence that may have presented with an issue – work with kennel staff.
Spay/Neuter all dogs and cats that are age appropriate. Work in conjunction with the trainer’s recommendation on behavior modification drugs (having done blood work in advance), as necessary. Perform heart worm (HW) test using 4dx and other testing (all sent out) for necessary diagnostics. Heart Worm treatment utilizing the HW Association Protocol. Occasional dental (although vet tech usually does this with help from the vet tech, if extractions are needed).
Adhere to Shelter Medicine” meaning:
do not have the equipment to do x-rays, sonograms, etc. therefore, we will refer out as necessary
do not do a comprehensive blood panel on every incoming animal (adopters have asked), we do the 4dx and the once over exam for any obvious things that may present themselves and require further work
vet should be able to diagnose/treat with minimal additional testing unless warranted

About Pet Rescue Inc
Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue organization founded in 1982 by volunteer workers who met at a “no-kill” animal shelter. Dismayed by the terrible living conditions of the animals there, they left to establish a rescue group to properly care for cats and dogs in need, and find them safe and loving homes. Over the last 35+ years, Pet Rescue has remained a no-kill rescue organization. And, we have remained a volunteer-based organization whose mission is to care for dogs and cats until they are adopted. In those years, we have grown with the help of donors and volunteers. We have our own facility in Harrison, NY with an onsite clinic for our animals, a kennel for some of our dogs and a dedicated space for adult cats (our “Kitty Cottage”). Additionally, many of our animals are fostered by dedicated volunteers. Our animals come from various places. Some come from owners who are no longer able to care for them. Many are taken from kill shelters. Still others come from the streets. Often the dogs and cats arrive sick or injured. They are subsequently treated by veterinarians to make them healthy for adoption. We take joy in finding our dog, cats, puppies, kittens and special needs animals good loving homes.
